Dr. Melissa Connell

feature_1.jpgBecause her father was a dentist, Dr. Melissa Connell has been involved in dentistry since age 15! She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Dentistry in 1997.

One of Dr. Melissa's greatest personal accomplishments includes working on the Navajo reservation as a dentist for a few years. She also traveled around Australia, Asia and Africa on her own. After she returned to the United States, Dr. Melissa completed a residency to specialize in pediatric dentistry because she gained so much experience working with the children on the reservation. She has been providing pediatric patients with exceptional dental care ever since! Dr. Melissa has been in practice for 2 years.

As a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Melissa feels it is important to stay on the cutting-edge of pediatric dentistry in order to offer the most advanced treatments. She maintains memberships in many prestigious professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Illinois Society of Pediatric Dentists, American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Association and the Chicago Dental Association. She is also an active community dentist who is affiliated with the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.

To give back to the local communities, Dr. Melissa and her staff volunteer at Honeycomb, Wicker Park and West Town community events. They sponsor schools, teams and organizations as well as donate funds and silent auction items when needed.

When she's not working hard at either one of her practices, there’s no place Dr. Melissa would rather be than with her husband, Bob Burger, a real estate agent with Keller Williams, and their three kids. Wanderlust runs deep in their family as they are adventurers and have so much fun exploring in Chicago, around the United States and around the entire world! Dr. Melissa’s family especially loves the Pacific side of Costa Rica, and they travel there frequently. Her kids are water babies and love to swim and be on the beach!

During her pediatric dental residency in 2004, Dr. Melissa generously donated one of her kidneys to her brother, Eric. It was the best thing she's ever done, and this act of giving helps her encourage others to be kind and generous, even in difficult times. Eleven years later, Eric is doing amazingly well!
